About Me

My name is Helen Thompson and I am a qualified child care worker and have worked with children of varying ages for almost 20 years. I have experience in the child care sector in Australia and the United Kingdom (I am from Scotland where I completed my formal training).

I currently live near the beach in Adelaide, South Australia.

My motivation behind this website is to provide valuable information and activities for parents, teachers and carers, who often lack the time to put these together for themselves. Information and activities are selected which I feel contribute something worthwhile to the health and well-being of your children.

I am a believer in getting back to basics, nature and in touch with the environment and one of my aims is to encourage parents/carers/teachers to do likewise.

You will find resources on this site that are designed to encourage this and to get those creative juices flowing and to provide you with fun, low cost alternatives to television, computer games and to encourage healthy eating. As a qualified child care worker I have learned the value of assisting and supporting children to be more creative and active.

What do you think of when you think of ‘play’? Does it conjure up thoughts, such as I do not have time for that because I am too busy chauffeuring my kids around all day, or I am too tired after a long day at work? If so, you are not alone. I empathise with parents who find it hard to find the time to do activities with their children when balancing this with busy lives.

The resources that I have provided on this site have been chosen carefully to assist children to develop their skills naturally through play. I have also written a number of articles that you will find through the Article link in the site's navigation.
